§ 01

A short introduction.

Viveve Health ("Viveve", "we", "us") publishes independent health journalism. This policy explains what we collect when you read, subscribe, or write to us — and what we promise not to do with it.

We've written this policy the way we write our stories: in plain English, with the assumption that you have better things to do than parse legalese. If anything here is unclear, tell us and we'll clarify it in the next revision.

The short version

We collect the minimum we need to run the publication. We don't sell your data. We use one privacy-respecting analytics tool and one email provider, both disclosed below. You can unsubscribe, export, or delete your data at any time.

§ 02

What we collect.

We collect different kinds of information depending on how you interact with us. In every case, we try to collect as little as possible.

Information you give us directly

  • Your email address, when you subscribe to the newsletter.
  • Your name and message, when you write to us through the contact form or by email.
  • Optional reading preferences, if you choose to provide them.

Information we collect automatically

  • Anonymised page view counts and referring site, via a privacy-respecting analytics tool that does not use cookies.
  • Server access logs (IP address, user agent, timestamp), retained for 14 days for security purposes only.
  • Email engagement (opens and clicks) for newsletter subscribers, so we can understand which stories resonate.

Information we do not collect

We do not use behavioural advertising cookies, cross-site trackers, fingerprinting scripts, or session recorders. We do not buy or enrich data about our readers from third-party data brokers.

§ 03

How we use your information.

Everything we collect serves one of the following purposes:

  1. To deliver the publication. Sending you the newsletter and remembering your reading preferences.
  2. To reply to you. Answering questions, corrections, or pitches sent through the contact form.
  3. To improve the publication. Understanding which articles readers find valuable so we write more of them.
  4. To keep the site secure. Detecting abuse, preventing fraud, and protecting the infrastructure.
  5. To meet legal obligations. Responding to lawful requests and maintaining required records.

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, to train third-party AI models, or to make automated decisions that significantly affect you.

§ 04

Sharing and third parties.

We use a small number of vendors to run the publication. Each is listed below.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Full stop. We only share information when strictly necessary to deliver a service you've asked for, or when required by law.

§ 05

Cookies and tracking.

We use a small number of cookies, and only the ones necessary for the site to function.

  • Session cookie — keeps you signed in if you have an account. Expires when you close the browser.
  • Preference cookie — remembers your reading preferences. Local to your device.
  • CSRF token — a security mechanism to protect form submissions. Not used for tracking.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies, conversion pixels, or social media tracking widgets.

§ 06

Your rights and choices.

Regardless of where you live, we offer the following to every reader:

You can always

  • Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Delete any associated personal information by writing to us.
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter with a single click at the bottom of any email.
  • Object to certain types of processing, or withdraw consent where we rely on it.

To exercise any of these rights, email contact@vivevehealth.com. We'll respond within 30 days and usually much sooner.

We treat every data request as a reader question — with a real person, a real reply, and no dark patterns on the way out the door.

§ 07

How long we keep things.

  • Newsletter subscribers — until you unsubscribe, or after 24 months of no opens, whichever comes first.
  • Editorial correspondence — up to 36 months, so we can reference prior context when you write back.
  • Server access logs — 14 days, then permanently discarded.
§ 08

How we protect your information.

We use industry-standard measures: TLS encryption in transit, encryption at rest for sensitive fields, access controls limiting who on the team can see what, and regular security reviews.

No system is perfect

If we ever experience a data incident affecting your personal information, we'll notify you directly and promptly — typically within 72 hours of discovery — with a plain-language description of what happened and what we're doing about it.

§ 09

Children's privacy.

Viveve is written for adult readers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please write to us and we will delete it promptly.

§ 10

Changes to this policy.

When this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. For material changes, we'll notify subscribers by email at least 30 days before the new policy takes effect.

§ 11

How to reach us.

For any question about this policy, or about the data we hold on you:

  • Email — contact@vivevehealth.com
  • Form — the contact page, selecting "Account & newsletter" or "Something else"
  • Post — Viveve Health, Inc., New York, USA (mailing address on request)

We aim to respond to all privacy-related inquiries within five business days.
